Director of Strategic Talent Management, University Advancement

As a key member of University Advancement’s (UA) Operations Team, the responsibilities of the Director of Strategic Talent Management include the development, implementation, and coordination of short- and long-term strategic programs and initiatives for staff development and retention. The Director of Strategic Talent will provide direction on best practices in employee retention, leadership and professional development, succession planning, training, and performance management to meet UA’s strategic goals. Additionally, the director will lead the establishment and implementation of programs aimed at improving employee acquisition, retention, development, morale, and productivity. Such programs include workforce and organization planning initiatives, performance management, learning, and development.  

 Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Learning and Development:

  • Collaborates with UA leadership in identifying and assessing staff core competencies, skills gap analysis, and growth plans to inform and develop training for staff development aligned with improving organizational performance (i.e., leadership development, tracks for high performers)
  • Oversight of  learning and development opportunities and programs for University Advancement team members
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain data gathered to inform targeted leadership development
  • Maintains currency in the field through continuous learning

Performance Management:

  • In alignment with UA core values and performance metrics, provides direction to supervisors in employee performance management and development plans
  • Prepares metrics, collects, and interprets data on employee retention, leadership, professional development, succession planning, training, and performance management efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of efforts and identify and evaluate trends

Retention:

  • Works with the Operations HR team in the assessment, development, and implementation of strategies pertaining to new employee/onboarding, off-boarding, and exit interviews
  • Designs and administers employee surveys to identify areas for improvement to assist UA leadership in strategic planning for employee engagement and retention
  • Leads the talent management program in the development and management of retention strategies, succession planning, career path planning process, and employee engagement activities

Workforce Planning:

  • Assists UA leadership with workforce planning and implementation of restructuring initiatives to include the creation of new roles and assessment of current employees for roles and compensation review

 

Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a human resources area or a related degree; 3 to 5 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, management, budget preparation and data base system analysis and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or advancement degree; HRCI or SHRM certification desired
  • Knowledge of and experience in the area of integrated strategic talent management - designing, developing, and supporting organization-wide talent management programs that cover performance management, talent development, coaching, succession planning, and relationship management
  • Experience in Advancement preferred
