Description

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) Advancement team is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and results-oriented individual, who has an understanding of and appreciation for the Michigan FFA Foundation and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, to join its dynamic fundraising team as the Assistant Director of Development for the Michigan FFA Foundation.  The Michigan FFA Foundation strives to raise annual support of about $400,000 annually with a long-term goal of growing the FFA Foundation from approximately $4.5M to $8M over time. The Assistant Director will be an integral member of the team and will focus his/her time and attention on FFA prospects whose philanthropic capacity is $99,000 or less.

Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Development, the Assistant Director will develop and manage a portfolio of 120 annual and special donor prospects.  Many of these will be Michigan agricultural businesses who provide annual sponsorships.  Employing an aggressive, strategic moves management program, the Asst. Director will average 10 to 12 face-to-face visits per month and will include a strategic focus on the identification and discovery of new prospects, and 2 to 4 gift solicitations per month.  The Assistant Director will dedicate their primary efforts toward prospects in Michigan.

Qualifications

Required:

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional fund raising, public relations, marketing, higher education fund raising or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years of experience in professional and higher education fund raising, marketing or related field; or three years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education development, public relations or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • In and out-of-state travel required.
